Replacing the dryer vent hose, and why it keeps failing

Is the hose behind your dryer flattened against the wall? That is the most common reason we replace one. The transition hose is the short piece from the dryer to the wall stub. It is not the duct inside the wall. White vinyl and thin foil accordion crush easily. Every crushed ridge catches lint. Code caps the transition piece at eight feet, and it must stay exposed (never buried in a wall or ceiling).

We use listed semi-rigid aluminum, clamped at both ends. No sheet metal screws through the joint. Screws snag lint and build a plug. Foil tape and worm clamps instead. Shallow laundry closets need a rigid periscope box so the dryer sits back without pinching anything.

Setups vary across Gilbert. Garage-wall laundry with a short exterior-wall run is the simple case. Townhome and condo closets stacked against a chase are tight, and the hose kinks the moment you push the dryer back. Two-story plans vented up through the attic to a roof jack are different. A new hose fixes nothing if the blockage is upstream.

Be honest with yourself first. If the hose is intact, round, and clamped, replacing it changes nothing. A hot laundry room and a burning-lint smell often point past the hose, into compacted desert dust and lint in the duct. Towels needing three cycles do too.
